The Challenge
Our climate and the marine environment have never been in worse condition. We need to reduce our CO2 emissions, combat pollution, and improve our impact on the ocean. Entrepreneurship is a crucial driver of innovation in the green transition, but unfortunately, the proportion of entrepreneurs in Denmark working with blue solutions in the green transition is less than 2%
The Ambition
As a strong maritime nation, Denmark should take the lead in the blue transition. We aim to make saving the ocean a profitable business by supporting and improving conditions for entrepreneurs with a sustainable focus on the ocean and the maritime sector.
To accelerate the blue transition and sustainable solutions, we must increase the number of successful entrepreneurs, raise awareness, and strengthen the ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The ecosystems in the oceans are collapsing. We need to make it a good business to save the ocean
The urgency
We get more than half of our oxygen from the ocean, and the ocean stores far more CO2 than forests.
It is a fact that ocean ecosystems are collapsing.
Therefore, a blue transition is needed if we are to continue breathing and living on our blue planet.
We need innovation and entrepreneurship with a positive impact on the environment and the ocean.
Blue solutions
There is great potential in the blue solutions of the green transition. We see a wave of OceanTech startups rising. Sustainable ocean technologies can become a new blue growth adventure if we remember to cooperate with the ocean and life below the surface. We call it: The Blue Transition.
In our report, “Blue Solutions – Strengthening Sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Blue Denmark”, we have identified more than 50 technologies and development areas as “blue solutions.” We conducted in-depth analyses and provided suggestions on how to kickstart a much-needed blue startup ecosystem. It’s only available in Danish.

The sailing headquarters
Let’s kickstart the blue startup ecosystem and create visibility and awareness of the potential in the blue transition. We will equip OCEAN FLAGSHIPS sailing headquarters and load it with sustainable blue solutions and OceanTech that can inspire and motivate more people to become blue entrepreneurs.
With our headquarters, we will embark on expeditions for the blue transition, exploring new blue solutions and entrepreneurs whom we can invite onboard, along with educators, advisors, and investors, to build networks and create new opportunities for collaboration and investment.
We aim to help and support as many entrepreneurs as possible, and at the same time build up knowledge capacity, and upskill those who will foster and assist the development and growth of future OceanTech entrepreneurs.
All Hands on Deck
To ensure implementation and collaboration on the continued support of blue and sustainable entrepreneurship, we have involved stakeholders and experts from the startup ecosystem, environmental organizations, the business community, and Blue Denmark.
We will continue to strengthen these relationships and aim to develop scalable concepts that other organizations and stakeholders can utilize. Our goal is for all activities and efforts to be carried out in collaboration with others.

About the Organization
OCEAN FLAGSHIPS was founded by passionate entrepreneurs, investors, and experts from the startup ecosystem with experience in starting, scaling, and investing in sustainable businesses that contribute to the green transition.
OCEAN FLAGSHIPS is a registered NGO organized with a board of directors, a secretariat, volunteers, and regular members. In addition, the organization has gathered an expert panel/advisory board of more than 20 highly qualified experts with cross-disciplinary and diverse expertise.
The ambition is to build a growing international organization with flagships, lighthouses, and ambassadors who will raise awareness, and share knowledge of the blue solutions, and help accelerate the blue transition.
